I was just wondering if you could help me with typing of some names. For example, Hernandez which has an accent above the A, or Ozil which has and accent above the O. How do you type these accented characters? Rodney, Leeds
Typing accented characters isnt terribly obvious. If youre using a keyboard with a computer running Windows, there are several ways to do this.
The first is through the Windows Character Map. Open the Start Menu, type in character map then click the Character Map highlighted result.
Another way to achieve the same result is to press the Windows Logo key + R to open a Run box, type charmap and press Enter. Youll now have the option to select any character you desire, and to click Copy to save it for insertion into your document. Alternatively, you can copy it by pressing the Ctrl and C keys and Ctrl and V to paste it.
Another method is by using the characters keyboard codes, which is slightly more fiddly. Press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and press and hold a variety of keys to pull up characters to choose from. For example, if you require a character with a grave accent, such as à, press the ` key,.
For characters with a circumflex accent, as seen on ô, press the Shift key and the ^ key, or Shift and : for umlaut accents (ö). Finally, press Shift and the ~ key for characters with tilde accents.
Once youve chosen the correct combination, type the letter youd like to accent. For example, to type ô, press Shift, then press the ^ key and the letter o. Pressing and holding the shift key will create a capitalised version of the character.
